1. synesthesia
It all begins with an idea.
For the past 5 years I have been obsessed with the idea of turning a concert into a painting. I see the shapes, colors, and textures of sounds. In other words, I have the gift of synesthesia.
At first some people don’t even believe me that it’s a real phenomenon I experience. I like to say it’s like reading auras but for sounds.
I have talked with physicists about the science of sound and color living on the same light frequencies. I’ve painted with other painters who have the gift. I went to concerts by myself with only my iPad so I could sit in the back and figure out how to layer each instrument to make a painting that feels like you’re at a live concert. It is still a work in progress, and I will continue to experiment and grow my art into something that nothing short of undeniable proof that music and color are symbiotic.
